How do I know when Hexawash has come to the end of its life?

You will know when your Hexawash has reached the end of its life by weighing it. If it weighs less than 80g, it contains too little magnesium to effectively clean a regular load of washing. At the beginning of its life, a Hexawash weighs around 120g, but while washing hundreds of loads, the magnesium gradually dissolves until there is too little to effectively clean your clothes.

What should I do with my Hexawash when it reaches the end of its life?

When your Hexawash reaches the end of its life and no longer contains enough magnesium to clean your clothes properly, simply bury it in your garden. The organic cotton will biodegrade, while the magnesium fertilises the soil, helping your garden to flourish.

How does Magnesium clean clothes?

Hexawash is filled with small magnesium pellets, which when mixed with water, create hydrogen gas and magnesium hydroxide. This reaction results in an alkaline solution of around pH 10.5 in your washing machine. Negative hydroxide ions reduce the surface tension of the water, making it easier for dirt and oil to breakdown and be washed away. Magnesium cleans your clothes as well as any detergent, whilst being kind to our waterways and planet.

Does Hexawash remove odours?

Yes, magnesium has been proven to be 10 times better at removing stubborn stains, than regular detergent

How can I make my clothes smell nice when using Hexawash?

If you use a clothes dryer, we recommend adding a little of your favourite essential oil to the outside of our Wool Dryer Balls and placing them in with your load of washing. Not only will the balls reduce the drying time, the essentials oil will also give your clothes a beautiful subtle fragrance.

Yes, it can be used in both soft and hard water.

Can you handwash with Hexawash?

Yes, to hand-wash, we recommend soaking your washing with the Hexawash for around an hour, before beginning the hand-washing process.

Do you need to use the rinse cycle with Hexawash?

No, you can skip the rinse cycle on your washing machine when using the Hexawash. No soap suds are created in the washing process therefore there is no residue to wash away. But if your washing machine doesn’t allow you to skip the rinse cycle, don’t worry, Hexawash will still work exactly the same, you’ll just use a little more water.

Can I use fabric softener with Hexawash?

We don’t recommend using fabric softener with the Hexawash because we prefer to keep our waterways chemical free! However, if you prefer to use softener, note that the fragrance may be reduced, due to the strong odour removing powers of magnesium.

Beeswax Wraps

How do I wash SuperBee Wax Wraps?

Just like a plate, wipe Wax Wraps down with a sponge or cloth, using a bit of warm water and eco-friendly detergent. Rinse off and leave to dry.

How long can I use my Wax Wraps?

Beeswax Wraps can be used up to 2 years with proper care. It depends on how much you use them, and how well you take care of them. If they come into contact with hot surfaces or water over 60°C or 140°F the wax will melt and affect the durability of the product.

Where should I store my Wax Wraps?

You can store them in a drawer with your tea towels or make an extra shelf for them. We generally prefer a closed dry space and keep ours in a small basket.

My Wax Wrap isn't sticking - what should I do?

First, make sure the surface you’re sticking the Wax Wrap to isn’t cold or wet. In colder climates, the Wax Wraps can become hard and may not stick as easily to surfaces. The best way to deal with this is to massage them with your hands so that they become a bit warmer, or completely crumple them up into a tight ball a couple times. Then they should then be more manageable and will stick better – if not, let us know!

What are SuperBee Wax Wraps made out of?

Our Wax Wraps are handmade with love from cotton fabric, beeswax, organic coconut oil and tree resin.

The Wax Wrap is hard and isn't sticking. What should I do?

In colder climates, we have heard from our European and North American customers, that the Wax Wraps become really hard. The best way to deal with this is to massage them with your hands so that they become a bit warmer. They should then be more manageable and will wrap. If not, let us know.

Why aren't the fabric edges straight?

We use a zigzag edge for extra cling. As for the occasional wonky edge, we try our best at SuperBee to make every Wax Wrap the best it can be, however our products are literally hand-made and unique.

My Wax Wrap does not stick – help!

Make sure you have warm hands to maneuver the wrap around the object. Some bowl surfaces are not suitable for Wax Wraps, particularly artificial surfaces. Metal, glass and wood are best. Plastic works too, but not always. All Wax Wraps should wrap firmly around fruit and vegetables. If for some reason your wrap really isn’t sticking, please let us know and we will replace it. Please do not slag us on social media…that would not be very nice.

How do I use my SuperBee Wax Wraps?

It is best to use a Wax Wrap that’s much larger than the objects or food you’re wrapping. For example, a small Wax Wrap should completely cover the open half of a sliced onion or lime to be effective. When wrapping over bowls or plates, the wraps should fit down at least half way past the edge.

How do Beeswax Wraps work?

Unlike plastic, beeswax is a natural, nontoxic substance. It has antifungal and antibacterial properties helping keep things clean and reducing risks of contamination. Beeswax is also waterproof, yet still breathable, protecting your food from getting wet or wilted while locking in moisture, flavour and freshness.

Where does SuperBee ship to?

We ship our products all over the world.  You can choose to receive your products by regular post (14-21 days), or by Express Post (3-5 working days).

Do Wax Wraps smell?

You’ll notice a pleasant beeswax scent when you first open your new Wax Wraps but this does not affect your food and will lessen over time.

Can you wrap eggs and meat in Wax Wraps?

To protect ourselves, the answer to this is no. Our beeswax wraps cannot be washed with 100°C.
Anything more than 60°C will melt the beeswax.
